Acusa Dean Reed: "Me persinguen por todo el mundo"

El cantante y actor de cine vivió cuatro meses en nuestro país: hoy que debe estar lejos de Chile reflexiona y hace un detenido análisis de su actitud frente a la vida.

"HE TENIDO PROBLEMAS - GRAVES Y COMPLEJOS - PERO NO ME QUEJO: HE ELEGIDO ESTE CAMINO", señala valientemente.

"Mi posición y actitud diaria frente a la vida me ha acarreado miles de problemas. Desde el punto de vista profesional, no creo exagerar al decir que ha frenado marcadamente mi éxito artístico mundial..."

Con su tradicional acento gringo españolado, DEAN REED agrega en todo triste...

"En Estados Unidos estoy en la lista negra junto a otros artistas como Pete Seeger. Cuando iba a filmar mi última película - con Yul Brynner - llegó a Roma una orden en la que se expresaba que yo no podía ser protagonista del film. Afortunadamente el director de la cinta era muy amigo mío y me impuso de todas formas como actor principal. Pero esto es para que veas que no ha sido fácil para mí", señala el cantante y actor de cine que ayer debe haber intentado por cuarta vez entrar a Argentina.

"Incluso en Italia tuve que pagar dos mil dólares para poder actuar en el Festival de la Canción Napolitana. No me quería por ningún motivo. Y aunque los periodistas me consideraron como 'el más simpático', el jurado ni me tomó en cuenta".

Dean Reed se acomoda nuevamente en la silla y suspirando fuerte comenta:

"Pero no me quejo: yo he elegido este camino. Me ha traido numerosos problemas (incluso familiares), pero hoy estoy tranquilo con mi conciencia".

¿De qué te sirvió vivir cuatro meses en Chile?

"Me sirvió para estar junto a un pueblo que vive horas históricas de importancia mundial. No vine a Chile a ganar dinero. Por el contrario: he perdido mucho. Durante cuatro meses actué tres veces al día - todos los días - totalmente gratis. El producto de las ventas de mis libros fueron a parar en la CUT y el de los discos al Comité Chileno de la Paz. Estos meses me ha servido espiritual, emocional e intelectualmente. Todos los momentos que he vivido en Chile me han servido mucho..."

Sácame de una duda: ¿De qué vivió en Chile? ¿De dónde sacaste dinero para tus gastos diarios si todas tus actuaciones fueron gratuitas?

"Viví con lo que ganí en el Casino de Viña y en el Festival de la Canción. Ahí sí que cobré. Ese dinero me sirvió para mis gastos y mantener a mi familia que vivía en Italia".

Al acomodarse por tercera o cuarta vez en su silla, Dean mira el reloj y salta como impulsado como resorte:

"Me voy. A esta hora tengo una reunión, de allí vuelvo al teatro, enseguida... (la lista es larga: testimonio del trabajo que desplegó durante su larga estada en el país el cantante y actor norteamericano Dean Reed). El gringo debe estar lejos de Chile en estos días, pero prometió regresar a nuestro país el próximo año. ("Cuando haya reunido unos cuántos dólares y pueda seguir trabajando gratis otos cuatro meses", agregó, riendo desde la puerta de mi oficina).

DEAN REED ACUSSES: "I AM PERSECUTED AROUND THE WORLD"

The singer and movie star lived for 4 months in our country: Today when he must be away from Chile, thinks and makes a careful analysis about his attitude tours life.

"I HAVE HAD SERIOUS AND COMPLICATED PROBLEMS - BUT I AM NOT COMPLAINING: THIS IS THE WAY I HAVE CHOSEN", he pointes out bravely.

"My daily position and attitude to face up life had brought me thousand of problems. From the professional point of view I don't think I am exaggerating when I say it has stopped my artistic success around the world."

With his traditional gringo-Spanish accent DEAN REED says in a sad tone...

"In the United States I am in the black list along another artists as Pete Seeger.

When I was going to make my last movie with Yul Brynner, in Roma, we got an order saying I couldn't be the co-protagonist of the film. Fortunately the movie director was a good friend of mine, and gave me one of the main roles anyways. So, as you can see not everything has been easy for me," points out the actor/singer, trying to enter to Argentina for the fourth time yesterday.

"Including one time in Italy, I had to pay two thousand dollars to be able to perform in the Neapolitan Song Festival. They didn't want me there under any circumstances, and although the journalists chose me as 'the nicest person', the Jury didn't even took me into account."

Dean Reed gets comfortable in his chair and sighting made a comment:

"Though I don't complain: I have chosen this way. It has brought me several problems (including with my family) but I am peaceful, my conscience is clear".

How useful was for you to live in Chile for four months?

"It was useful to live along to people who live historical hours of worldwide importance. I didn't come to Chile to make money, on the contrary: I have lost lots of it. For about four months I was performing three times a day every day for free. The money collected from my books went to CUT (Central Unida de Trabajadores) (Workers Central Union), and the money from my records to the Chilean Committee for the Peace. These months have been spiritual, emotionally and intellectually very useful for me. Every moment lived in Chile has been very helpful..."

Clear up my doubt, how did you survive in Chile? Where did you get the money for your daily expenses if your performances were free?

"I lived with the money earned in the Casino of Viña del Mar and the Festival de la Cancion (The Song Festival). I charged a lot. That money was good to support my expenses and my family who lives in Italy."

After making himself comfortable for the third or fourth time in his chair Dean looks at his watch and jump as he was propelled by a spring:

"I am leaving. I have a meeting, and from there I will fly to the theatre, and next..." (The list is long: testimony of the hard work done during the long stay in our country of the North American actor/singer Dean Reed). The gringo must be far away from Chile these days, but he promised to be back in our country next year. ("Once I collect a few dollars, I will able to work another four months for free again", added laughing from my office's door.)

Dean Reed klagt an: "Sie verfolgen mich durch die ganze Welt"

Der Sänger und Filmschauspieler hat vier Monate in unserem Land gelebt. Heute, wo er weit weg von Chile ist, denkt er nach und analysiert seine Haltung gegenüber dem Leben.

"ICH HATTE PROBLEME - SCHWIERIGE UND KOMPLIZIERTE -, ABER ICH BESCHWERE MICH NICHT: ICH HABE DIESEN WEG GEWÄHLT", bekennt er tapfer.

"Meine Position und meine tägliche Haltung zum Leben hat mir Tausende von Problemen beschert. Es erscheint mir aus beruflicher Sicht nicht übertrieben zu behaupten, dass dies meinen künstlerischen Erfolg in der Welt wesentlich gebremst hat..."

Und in seinem durch einen typischen amerikanischen Akzent gefärbten Spanisch fügt DEAN REED ganz traurig hinzu:

"In den Vereinigten Staaten bin ich zusammen mit anderen Künstlern wie Pete Seeger auf der schwarzen Liste.

Als ich meinen letzten Film mit Yul Brynner, drehen wollte, kam in Rom ein Befehl an, demzufolge ich nicht die Hauptrolle in dem Film spielen sollte. Glücklicherweise war der Regisseur des Films ein guter Freund von mir und er setzte mich deshalb trotzdem als Hauptdarsteller ein. Aber daran siehst du, dass es für mich nicht leicht war", unterstreicht der Sänger und Filmschauspieler, der gestern wohl zum vierten Mal versucht hat, nach Argentinien einzureisen.

"In Italien musste ich sogar zweitausend Dollar bezahlen, um beim Songfestival in Neapel auftreten zu dürfen. Man wollte mich auf keinen Fall haben. Und obwohl die Journalisten mich für den 'sympathischsten' hielten, nahm die Jury nicht einmal Notiz von mir. "

Dean Reed macht es sich wieder auf dem Stuhl bequem und seufzt:

"Aber ich beschwere mich nicht: Ich habe diesen Weg gewählt. Er hat mir viele Probleme (auch familiäre) beschert, aber heute habe ich ein ruhiges Gewissen."

Welchen Nutzen hatten für dich die vier Monate in Chile?

"Ich konnte an der Seite eines Volkes leben, das weltgeschichtlich bedeutsame Stunden erlebt. Ich bin nicht nach Chile gekommen, um Geld zu verdienen. Im Gegenteil: Ich habe viel verloren. In den vier Monaten bin ich jeden Tag dreimal aufgetreten, alles kostenlos. Die Erlöse aus dem Verkauf meiner Bücher gingen an die CUT (Gewerkschaft) und die Platteneinnahmen an das chilenische Friedenskomitee. Diese Monate waren für mich von großem spirituellen, emotionalen und intellektuellen Nutzen. Jeder einzelne Moment, den ich in Chile gelebt habe, hat mir viel genützt..."

Beantworte mir noch eine Frage: Wovon hast du in Chile gelebt? Woher kam das Geld für deine täglichen Ausgaben, wenn alle deine Auftritte kostenlos waren?

"Ich habe von dem gelebt, was ich im Casino de Viña und auf dem Songfestival gewonnen habe. Dort habe ich Geld genommen. Mit diesem Geld habe ich meine täglichen Ausgaben bestritten und meine Familie unterhalten, die in Italien lebt."

Als Dean sich zum dritten oder vierten Mal in seinem Stuhl zurechtsetzt, schaut er plötzlich auf die Uhr und springt hoch:

"Ich muss los. Ich habe jetzt eine Versammlung, von dort muss ich sofort zurück zum Theater... (Die Liste ist lang und legt Zeugnis von der umfangreichen Arbeit ab, die der US-amerikanische Sänger und Schauspieler Dean Reed während seines langen Aufenthalts im Land geleistet hat.) Auch wenn der Amerikaner im Moment weit weg ist von Chile, so hat er doch versprochen, im nächsten Jahr wieder in unser Land zu kommen. ("Wenn ich ein paar Dollars zusammen habe und wieder vier Monate kostenlos arbeiten kann," fügt er noch hinzu und lacht mir von meiner Bürotür aus zu.)
