DEAN REED SANG AND DANCED CUECA AT THE "TEA PARTY FOR TEN"

Last Wednesday, our old friend Dean Reed left Santiago to Montevideo and Buenos Aires. He likes Chile so much, that he will be back again, January 25th. This time his dream to go on a tour of the provinces, will come true. He will start in Punta Arenas.

Last Wednesday 6th at 5:30 PM took place the "Tea Party for Ten" with Dean. The tea party was brought foward half an hour, because his performances at Waldorf. With his habitual simplicity, Dean arrived even before the reunion started. We took advantage of his early arrival, to introduce him the winners and to give him two big and heavy packages full of correspondence sent to him through ECRAN's office. Once, sitting at the popularity and cordiality table, the ten winners asked Dean a question, one at the time. This dialog was broadcasted by Radio Mineria and Radio Prat. Here are some of the questions that Dean answered with his Spanish accent:

What did you know about Chile, before you came down?

"I knew that was a small country, very long and one of the dryest of South America, because the desert in the north part of the country."

What do you think about Anita Bryant's attitude of buying for the children in need a stove? Are you plannig to sing for them as well?

"I know Anita very well, she is a serious girl, so I don't think that she did it as a publicity stunt, but because she really wanted to. Yes, I am prepared to sing for them when they ask me to. Probably it will be when I come back next January."

Who do you think that is more succesfull, the Chilean singers, singing in English or the Argentinian ones, singing in Spanish?

"Well, Chile is different to the other Latin American countries. Here, people like singers singing in English; but it's different in Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay or any other country."

Next, Dean spoke about his goals, and about how we could get peace and brotherhood in the world. (See Ecran 1610). Suddenly he got up and said:

"Ah, I know now how to dance Cueca," and grabbing a napkin, he started dancing. When we asked to do it again, in order to take a picture, he said: "Now with a partner" and holding the arm of the girl in his left, started dancing.

Dean was very pleased with the trophy that "Ecran" gave him, the little silver tea cup with the following engraving "Tea for ten with Dean Reed". At the end of the tea party, Dean played his guitar and sang for the guests "Once Again" and "Riders in the Sky" according to their request.

Januar wiederkommen will.
